Mini Build School: Roof

A short step my step, on how to design a rather intricate roof :)

1. Decide on your roof profile. Build it in dirt. Dirt shaping will allow you to easy adjust the shape you're going for. If you need inspiration on different types of roof-lines, there's an array of them in the house building part of flat world.

2. Shape you your roof overhang. We're still working in dirt here. Not every roof needs as much of an overhang as this, but atleast on or two blocks from the house itself makes a big difference.

3. Slanting the roof. There is nothing wrong with a straight roofline, on some builds thats exactly what you need, but for this, I wanted that feeling of the roof bending slightly down in the middle, as you can see on the picture below.

4. Trimming. Replace the outer most sides of your roof with full blocks of your roof trim material. I tend to use a mix of cobble, stone, stone brick, andesite, mossy cobble and mossy stone brick.

5. Place and replace your trimming with slabs and stairs. This will make the roofline itself a little more smooth, but also make the entire thing a little more interesting. Play around with it, there's no wrong or right here :)

6: Finish the trim. Take the line of your roof all the way around, and add any details to the overhang you might like.

7. Shape the roof ifself. This is the bit where you can truly get a bit creative. As shown below, I've taken the dip in the roof all the way down the roofline, designing the top part of each layer of the roof. This bit can be both intimidating and wee bit tricky, but the beautiful thing is, it doesn't have to be perfect!

8. Fill in the rest of the roof!
