Social buildy type thing?

Just a vague idea at this point, but one thing I like about the server is people from all over the place, makes it more interesting. Was thinking of some kind of temp build (on Seasonal? Or wherever) of a world map and people could put a marker or their head on it.

Also would anyone else be up for a kind of "open house" day on seasonal to nosey at each others bases?

I voted the last one, but I have no input. I am game for some group building/socializing. The idea of a world map is really cool, as long as I don't have to do all of the U.S. lol. Everyone is welcome to come nosey at my base any time they like.
 
Other option may be to build directly into an ocean- although I don't yet have enough sand/gravel for that lol. I will get on to organising open house day if this is ok with admins? Would give me some motivation to actually finish my builds!
 
I like the world map idea! Could do it as actual map art so would have something people could actually hang in their base. And I think it could be permanent. But, to be effective, would need to be more than one panel, so would be a LOT of to actually set up.
 
I actually tried importing a picture of map into just one map plot and it works pretty good. The import put a lot of white dots in the water, but that could be cleaned up.

Because it is rectangular, bottom half of map is empty. But this would allow for adding the HangOut logo or something.

Would it be flat, or include topography? We could present ideas and vote to allow a natural wonder if someone wanted to build a rendition of say, the Grand Canyon, or great barrier reef? Even some manmade wonders like pyramids, china wall? Just throwing out ideas to make it colorful and more than just a flat map.

That sounds great! I was originally thinking just a flat type map like for map art but I'm not very original lol.

Flat is perfect for map art, and could possibly still incorporate a few small details as just a map. Any topography or small builds could make it interesting to run around in too! And with that said, maybe could consider a 2x3 (6 panel ) ..... and thats about all I have suggestion wise. I can help flatten, collect, build or whatever is needed.
 
I am happy to create pattern for whatever size, but keep in mind 6 panels is HUGE in game and would take a lot of work and time to set up. I currently have 5 panels in permanent (with my base being the 6th panel) if you want to get an idea of the size. I wanted to dig down to a certain level in the mesa, so dug out a lot more than would be necessary in another area. If want to have dimensional aspect, I think would definitely want to do on land and not over water, but I think we could find a spot somewhere on Permanent for whatever size we decide on.

Unfortunately, I can't to much right now. I pulled my back yesterday, and while it is doing better, I can only sit up at my desk for limited time still.

Would people prefer something like this on permanent? I have only really been playing on seasonal since the new map came out, but I can look for a place.
Is 6 panels = 6 not-zoomed-out maps? so er 3x128 by 2x128? Would definitely be easier to clear out a relatively flat area I think.
 
(I found two spots, one near my base and one more central, on seasonal that I think would be manageable but no good if permanent is the plan :D)

Get well soon. I have had L5 ruptured disc for decades, I find TENS machines are best for blocking pain and relaxing the surrounding muscles in spasm.
