Crappy minecraft player

I'd like to start off by saying I love the hangouts community. Everyone here has made me feel welcome. This is the best online group I have been apart of. That being said I don't really play on the server much at all. Even though I don't play I still read the forum posts, shoutbox, and discord because I enjoy the people that make up this community. This seemed like a good place to give insight as to why I don't play much on hangouts anymore.

It's not you it's me ;). I don't have a lot of time to play minecraft and I am a pretty slow and casual player. It could take me 6 months or so to get the beginnings of a base setup. This has made playing on main difficult for me since regular resets makes me feel like I have hardly made any progress before I have to start again. I am not suggesting we don't reset main. I understand lots of people prefer regular resets since they are much better builders than I am.

I also know vanilla exists for this reason. It's a world that does not get reset and I could take as long as I need to build something here. This is also a bit of an issue for me though. Turns out I'm just bad at minecraft. I die a lot, loose my inventory, get frustrated, and rage quit often. When I play locally or on my realms server I have the gamerule keepinventory set to true to help with this issue. I don't expect vanilla to change I am just giving a bit of an explanation of how I deal with this issue else where.

So while I love hangouts I have slowly stopped playing on the server as much. I don't expect the any of the worlds to be changed to cater to my specific play style I just wanted to state why I haven't been playing much at all since it was one of the example questions Steve mentioned.

TL;DR
I am too slow of a builder to get anything worthwhile done between reset to play on main and I am too bad of a player to play on vanilla without rage quitting all the time.

I'm with you there Xip, I can't play much at present for various reasons so doing the rapid advancement thing doesn't motivate me, I like to play games slowly & casually anyway. Also not being a talented builder slows me up!

I got my 2nd Shulker chest the other week, whilst many others are at their end game point 8)

I avoid vanilla for the same reason as you. I like to wander around, build things randomly and slowly.

I fear we are in the minority so I'm intending to be a wandering beggar next season 8) Maybe with a mobile Dirt Empire, there are as many ways to play this game as there are players.

Thanks for posting!

Would it ruin everyones experience if people could choose to enable keepinventory=on for themselves?
I don't know if that is technically feasible within Minecraft, but maybe that could solve the problem?

keepInventory is such a powerful game rule, even if it was possible (and I'm really not sure it is) to make it switchable, I don't think it would be something we'd introduce.

Xip, Sounds like you were reading my autobiography! I am barely above cowering in a hole in the ground w/ a door, but enjoy learning from all the brilliant builders on the server & try to keep making small advancements in my build attempts

Hey xiphoid, I understand about the time things, and what fun is a game you don’t know the ins and outs of and you haven’t the time to invest on learning on you own. I have a thought. If you’re up for this, send me a message with a time you might be able to spend a bit of time on the server. I’ll meet up with you on vanilla and we could put together a safe and good looking (it had to look good-yes?) settlement. Hopefully that will give you a safe haven and you can build or venture as you dare from that point.

Hey Ratpackin! Thank you so much for the offer. You are exactly the kind of player that makes this community great. I really appreciate you willing to take the time to help me out. Since I originally posted this, the staff have added the permanent world. All of the perks of the seasonal world without the reset. I have taken up residence there and have been loving it! That being said, if you ever see me on feel free to stop by. I have been rebuilding my base from the first season I played on hangouts. Finally finishing all of the ideas I had years ago. You can follow my slow progress here if you want. I haven't added any pictures lately but I will soon.

i had the same problems when i started playing back in the day. I tackled it by not using any gear that i only have one off. aka, always have plenty of spare arnor and tools, if i only have one fortune pick, it stays at home and so on. Turns out that corpes recovery is a lot easyer when fully kittet :)

When I am able to play ... I make you lot look like speedsters!

I'm slow and I like it that way, a mad rush to get everything then get bored & need a reset doesn't appeal to me. I don't brew, build auto much if at all, certainly not farms, so I am Glacial.

I really enjoy wandering around ( & horse riding), marvelling at others builds etc.

I too obtain spares before I risk anything, that takes a fair amount of time.

I will be moving all my modest goods & chattels to Permanent, perhaps that map would suit you better Xiphoid?

Maybe we should set up the hangouts charity, with "did you die?" boxes :D
If there's any interest, I can actually get that done easily. Obviously, it takes away some of the progression but can reduce frustration as well.
I guess Ros' First Aid tent on seasonal was an attempt at doing that, more or less :P

That's exactly what I did. I made this thread before the perm world was a thing. It was made in response to Steve's question about why players may or may not play on hangouts. The perm world was announced a few days after and it has been an answer to all my woes!

A few replies back I posted a link to my perm base progress. Here is a link to my base on the map.
