As a very technical player, I really enjoy doing things like automated farms, redstone machinery and so on.
In the current state, that is a bit difficult to do, for a number of reasons:
1. TNT duping is not allowed, sadly, that's the only legitimate way to break blocks automatically+renewably in this game as of now. I hope Mojang will fix this soon, but we haven't seen any indication of that yet.
2. The paper server settings prevent certain things from working entirely or make significant changes that can severely impact what is possible (For example, the mob despawn sphere being 100 blocks instead of 128, but spawn sphere being 128 means mobs spawn for a single tick and instantly despawn, which can make some automated farms extremely hard to build). Paper also has some settings for redstone that makes hoppers etc quite unreliable.
3. The way chunk loading works (especially in the spawn chunks) is a bit wonky, so I heard. I wanted to do some of my own testing on this however.
4. Paper patches some glitches like bedrock breaking, which are part of the vanilla experience to some people.
Now, I am aware that theres a good reason for all of these rules and limitations to be in place and I'm in no position to really disagree with them, especially being a new member, but I wanted to open up the discussion about them regardless.
Some potential ideas for what could be done to alleviate these issues:
1. TNT duping can create an unfair advantage for players knowledgable on how to use them, I understand that, so maybe relying on the fact that we are all adults and don't want to ruin each others experience can be sufficient.
2-4. Have the admins looked at Lithium before? I hear it attempts to adhere to vanilla as closely as possible while also retaining lots of the performance improvements
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
