Holiday Traditions!

We have two Christmaseseses! On December 25th - on the mucked up Gregorian Calendar ( introduced in 1580 something) and on the 7th January, which is 25th December on the older Julian Calendar = Russian Orthodox Christmas. We don't do much on the 25th though, New Year and the 7th are the Festive days ---- food! Drink! Hic!

Christmas day here, is solely a day you use for getting over christmas eve xD In scandinavia, Christmas is on the 24th more than anything, food, presents, dancing round the tree, feeling ill from too much dessert...

I really dont like christmas.

In Holland, it is 24 (evening)/25/26 Christmas, three days of family horror

YGC, is that a regional thing? In Twente we only do the 25, but that's more just a nice meal and a walk or something. The big gift giving day is sinterclaas on the 5th.

No, it is a national thing, it is even written in Dutch law and I think it was invented by the Catholic church so people could have an extra day to go to church, the same as we have two Easter days (Sunday and Monday) and two Pentecost days (Sunday and Monday).

Did a little google research, in 813 we had 4 days of Christmas and they brought it back to three in 1773 and then we ended up with two somehow

^^ din't know all that about the history of Christmas, interesting read!
Although only the 25th is a 'real' holiday here in Belgium. On Christmas evening, the 24th, people like to open presents with close family. On the 25th they (could) go to relatives and friends to visit (and maybe open more presents) or just enjoy the presents they've gotten the evening before. And people who have nothing to do invented 'second Christmasday' on the 26th lol, at least that was what I thought, but now I see where it comes from

That's interesting. I just know what my husband's family does, so I guess they just chose to do it differently!
