Hello anyone who looks at this. I am new to the MineCraft game & world; probably 15 hours of solo play so far. But a long-time gamer back to M.U.L.E. on the Commodore 64 and so many others through the years. Currently have mostly been playing Civilization, Heroes of Might & Magic, Pillars of Eternity.... The list goes on, but MineCraft has taken hold & gotten me twisted up trying to solve all of these puzzles so i can not only survive, but hopefully put a little beauty into my corner of the world. Not that artistic at all personally, but I can follow a picture. Or help make someone else dream get finished!

I am 65 w/ eclectic music tastes and an avid reader since childhood. I love woodworking but due to some health issues and job changes I have not been able to do much for the past 5 years. The tools & plans are waiting for me cause that soon will change. Work really gets in the way of all i want to do! For a bit longer, professionally, i am Director of a hospital Clinical Engineering department. Our staff maintain & repair all of the Healhcare Technology; everything patient care, testing, diagnosis; everything from suction regulators & thermometers to lasers and MRI's.

Looking forward to meeting all of you through this medium & the game. Very pleased to become part of an Adult approach compared to what I hear is typical amongst the children's sites

Welcome J! Good to see you made it 8) I'm semi-retired too being a similar age to you but not as old as Dan.. and one other who built a retirement home for us a couple of Minecraft maps ago

The engineering stuff you do is interesting, I've been an advanced "radio ham" for over 25 years and love tinkering with electronic gadgets ... I have a huge stockpile of components from a relocated medical equipment manufacturing company that relocated and just gave stuff way, it's likely that you are familiar with most of it!

I have gamed for many decades too, starting with various MUD systems on dial up peer to peer bulletin board systems and JANET the UK educational network in the 80s, and Ping-Pong or was it Pong in Basic on a home built Sinclair ZX81- a far cry from what's possible today ofc!

Sounds like you will love server based MC, there are so many angles and styles of play there's plenty of challenge and fun to be had.

5 stars for the tea thing, I love the smell and taste of coffee but it makes me too jittery, even decaff has too much caffeine in it :(

Greetings from the "Old" man, welcome to the forum and server. I'm retired from IT and a life long woodworker. I know you will be glad to get back into WW. I have recently finished fixing up our house (23 years or so) and am finally getting my to my shop. Recently bought a new 3D printer (the old one finally gave up the ghost, and I'm spending a lot of time researching/designing/printing much needed things for the shop. Hope to see you in game soon, I usually only get to play in the early AM (5-7 EDT), but do wander on at other times when RL allows.

I'm WEIRD! I love tea & hate coffee, but LOVE Espresso
Nothing weird about that!! Welcome :) your job sounds absolutely fascinating, coming from someone who has worked in the medical field from the care side of things. I've seen all the machines working but no idea how. You're a wizard!

You'll enjoy playing on this server. We prove it's not just a kids game :)

Welcome! Civ III was my favourite of that series but HOMM was also a much loved title.

IMHO Minecraft isn't really a survival game (especially with all the help you're likely to get on HangoutMC!). Have you ever tried any of the other 'proper' survival games? I've played '7 Days to Die' pretty extensively (well 1000+ hours), 'The Forest', 'The Long Dark' and recently 'Project Zomboid'. I play all in permadeath mode as it adds more of a a frisson and challenge than losing your gear in a pool of lava and respawning!

Hi J and welcome. A polish bloke here, not very passionate about anything worth mentioning currently. I had many passions in my life though, and woodworking was there too :-) I spend most time reading books now. Perhaps I'm looking for something new, not sure what yet. I work as an electrical engineer and prepare documentation for electrical stuff, including healthcare stuff. Just a year ago one of projects I took part in was an adaptation of a hospital for an MRI.
My first computer was Atari 800xl, second Amiga 600 and then were PCs. The most nostalgic games for me are Settlers 1&2 and Quake. And there was that game (wondering if you guys and gals played it too) a 3d tetris game called Blockout. When I think of it now these three games mix well into what we call Minecraft now :-)

Exactly that, spent days in Settlers ....

What kind of woodworking do you like to do? Old school or power tools?
Been mostly power tools. I have a Shopsmith so have made some cabinets, a set of bunk-beds, music boxes, and a lot of wood turning; Christmas ornaments, vases, bowls, and a LOT of wooden pens

Haven't played any of those you mention but agree w/ the tension created when you are risking everything (all the hours invested) w/ permadeath. I have played Diablo franchise & some other games that way

I have a book to read on each floor & sometimes ones in different rooms so I can just pick it up to relax & stop whatever else is going on. I also had an Amiga! stepped up from the C64.

Yes, who could have guessed what that simple Pong game would lead to! And how much time I've spent over the years. Looking forward to the server play.. This will be my first time unless my senility has taken a memory away!

What do you make w/ a 3-D printer? I have never seen one and cannot figure out what I would make. Except weekends my playing will have to mostly in the evenings, but hopefully we can continue to post. If you have time in the future let me see something you have made either in wood or w/ the printer. Have a good evening

Hello! Welcome to the forum and the glorious game we all know as minecraft! I too am a big enthusiast of the Civilization franchise, great taste!
Thanks! So many other games have been mentioned by everyone I am going to have to try & see what I have missed; if they are still available.
