Seasonal Issue with portals linking?

Is anyone having issues with portals not linking? I placed a portal in the nether at the exact coordinates calculated from the desired overworld location and it placed a portal more than 100 blocks away. I then went to the desired overworld location and built a portal. I created another portal at the correct X and Y but way off in the Z. When I went back using the new portal it created a new portal neater to the desired location, but the wrong Y. Haven't researched it yet, just wondering if anyone has a suggestion.

There's an old post about linking portals. Here's a synopsis of my suggestion at the time. I think you need to build the overworld one first, but dont light it. Probably best to tear down everything you've built (or the game made) before trying again.

1. Create overworld portal - dont go in (if you do you'll have to tear down the one it created after you build the new one). Write down X, Y and Z coords and calculate the corresponding nether coords using a website.
2. Run to Main Hub, go to Nether
3. From your door in the nether hub tunnel up to 116 (leave room for a rail stop before you start). This is the only really hairy part - you may encounter lava or large holes you'll have to deal with on the way to 116.
4. Tunnel until you get to the X, Y and Z you need and build a portal (it should take you to the overworld one).
5. Put in rail and enjoy!

Linking portals

Only really linked one set of portals so far, but it worked as expected by simply dividing the X and Z overworld coords by 8.

My portal ended up in the redstone room under the nether hub. There was nowhere I could put it up on the main level because it collides with the wall of the redstone room. Anyway, it seems to have disappeared. Did someone take it down? Or did it just disappear on it's own?2021-08-20_13.29.56.png

Mine is also accessed from the redstone area.
That's ok,
However your overworld portal is 20 blocks lower. The connection doesn't cause any interference now, but if we encounter any, you may want to move your portal to the exact spot.

My OW portal finally linked with a portal that was not where it was supposed to be. Then today, when I went back from the nether, it created a new portal on top of a neighboring hill where it had created one previously. The portal in my base is at 249/97/3777 while the new portal that was created is at 381/91/3688. The nether portal that my base portal should be connecting to was at 31/97/472. If I remember correctly, a portal located there built one quite far away from my base at Y=63 (don't recall the location but can find it when I have time if needed). I don't understand why the portal links were working fine and then stopped. I did notice that the nether portal is located at the edge of a chunk there, but not in the OW.

Many years ago I played briefly on a short-lived server and my base portal generated one between two chunks in the nether, resulting in the nether portal generating new OW portals in different locations (near to each other) rather than connecting to my base portal. It became a great source of obsidian.
