Day 1
To start off, I collected my starter gear, claimed my mailbox, and was gifted a couple of diamonds! Knowing I don't have a lot of time tonight(I work third shift), I made one goal: make a map. I am used to maps modded in. If I am to explore this big, beautiful map, I need a way to navigate without pages upon pages of coordinates. It has been a while since I crafted a map, so I had to look up the recipe. Alright, paper and a compass. Sounds easy enough. Well, perusing the shops, I saw my two gifted diamonds weren't going to be enough for my goal. I swiftly picked up two stacks of paper for one diamond and decided to utilize the teleports.
Off into the snowy, spruce forest to find a cave. I was hoping this would be faster than strip mining. However, a bed, chest, and a seemingly closed mining entrance tell me this area might be diamondless. Nonetheless, I start my journey by knocking down some trees for my first pick. While looking for a cave, I stumble upon something, or someone else instead.
A doggo precariously perched on the hillside! Naturally, I begin to look for a skelly to liberate him of his bones. Miraculously, I find one nearby that hasn't burned alive already. I gather two bones and decide to try my luck.
Success! This doggo is now my friend! I wonder what I should name him? I guess I will have to save my other diamond for a nametag. Working our way up and around to a safer decent, we stumble upon a cave. It is lit up some, but we decided to explore a bit anyway. Bits of coal and the urge to light the rest of the cave keep us pushing on. Then, we find iron! Maybe this cave isn't mined out after all. A quick smelt up and a ceremonious goodbye to stone(for now).

(I tossed my stone pickaxe into the lava, but you can't really tell. haha)
Eventually, we get to the bottom of the cave and check my Y level. Not too far away from 16. Maybe we will go a bit deeper. Doggo and I begin to make a staircase and can start to hear lava. Being careful to make sure she is sitting, I continue on. Then, I find... er... something.
Someone's been here. Butts! I see a sign that invites me to find diamonds. Still processing what to do, Doggo and I decide to check it out. Several strip mines, but I think we can still salvage this. We venture down the mine and decide to do a little strip mining until I get a plan of action. Luckilly, I didn't need to plan anything. A cave opened up to us within a few blocks! So did a creeper! I switch to my sword and give him a whack. Then, Doggo runs past me. The creeper explodes taking out several blocks with him, but Doggo is alright. I sit her down and share some of my meat to hopefully heal her up. The rest of this cave was pretty empty, but we did manage to find some redstone! We should have enough for our map! Having already harvested the items we needed, I decide to strip mine for a bit. It's safe and we could use the diamonds if we are going to get a nametag.
Success! Our first diamonds! Boy, do I wish I had fortune, but we need these. Shortly after, I can hear the groaning of a zombie. Still off the high of finding diamonds and the Doggo seeming eager to fight, I decide to search him out. I could give her the meat as a treat! We mine towards the sound until a block gives way to a small, dark cave with a hint of lava in the background. All of this would look plenty awesome if it were not for the three zombies and skeleton coming for us. Doggo rushes through the hole and I begin to mine the hole larger for myself. I swipe the zombies back with one fully charged slash and rush the skeleton. An arrow stalls me, but I am on him. The starter iron sword and Doggo make quick work of him. It is not over yet as the three zombies begin to attack me. I fall back into the hole to eat and heal. Slowly the zombies funnel in. I use the entrance to my advantage to make sure my full swipes hit each. As I kill one I hear the telltale sizzle.
The explosion happened before I could round the corner. Doggo! Blocks and rotten flesh litter the floor. Slowly, I work my way through the cave. I did manage to find more iron, redstone, and even gold. However, defeated, I decide to head back to town. I make my way back up, but this time opt to take the staircase up to the closed off entrance from earlier... A quick teleport back to town, and I can craft what I came here for...
A map. Oddly positioned, but a map! I guess I will be exploring that direction in my next adventure. Today was a roller coaster!
