The Great Viking War of Season 3

Not so fast! Google, the absolute scion of all truth in the Universe, tells me that Jord actually means Land. Dirt would be Smuds. We are the people of the land, no waterborne insanity for us.

Smuds is only dirt in the "nobody cleaned" kinda way. Jord means both earth, dirt and land. Most danish words are put together from other words,

Jordbær = Strawberry
Jordbrug = Farming
Jordskok = Jerusalem Artichoke
Jordnød = Peanut
Jordmor = Midwife
Jordklode = Earth

Welcome to Danish lessons, you think you know how to pronounce something? Think again. You think you know what a word means? I prolly means 4 other things too.

Interesting :) that's like smuts. - zimlya (transliterated) is land and soil in Russian, Mir - is planet earth and peace. I like multi-purpose words, suits my awkward nature!

The danish word for strawberry (a berry at the end of a straw), is jordbær. Directly translated, it's Earth Berry (a berry growing down at the ground).

Some other berries:
Blueberry = Blåbær (same same)
raspberry=hindbær (probably from "ham" and "himmel", which means covered or covered by)
blackberry=brombær (comes from bremmel, which means bush with thorns)

Danish is not an easy language, but I like it... ;)
