Memorial Project

Just uploaded updated map onto my realms account. My son installed some command block buttons to TP around to some spots on the map. Would love to have another meeting this weekend to talk plans over.

Here are some pictures of my progress:
White spot near bottom of waterfall is a loading error. Could not see chunks at any distance on realms for some reason.

Trying to vary how the different rivers start.

Have added trees and flowers along the rivers.

Added some underwater plants to the lake, including sea pickles so it lights up at night. Unfortunately World Painter can only do the coral fans, not the blocks.

Here is the central plot with the waterfall. Wondering about adding something to create "spray" at the bottom.

Saw this effect in a video here are a couple screen shots of it:

It looks really great with the added greenage. :D Also the spray idea is very cool. I've only done it once (in the hub where the waterfall flows from the left island) and it needs a large scale to work properly, but in this setting I can imagine it well. Is it much work to try it out? I'd suggest a mix of white and light blue glass blocks and panes.

I feel the diorite platform edge in the middle could be a different - maybe a mix of it with white concrete, quartz and white wool?

I don't think the spray is something I can do with world painter, but can try it out in realms world. Just won't do too much as nothing there is permanent until I am all done with World Painter.

I put a little platform up in the realms world, just to see how the view into the middle would look. Not sure about this yet, wondering if islands would be better??? Platform is something else that cannot be build with World Painter. But I might try making some islands, just to see . . .

Thinking of making the border around the flags out of gray or brown, something that is not at the edge of any of the flags! Maybe polished andesite. What do you think?

something map makers do (sorry playing a lot of maps recently) is have a "veiwing button" and the platform is made from barrier blocks you are kinda just floating but can walk around to get a better view

Interesting idea, would be a good alternative to a glass floor. Tried glass floor, but "clear" glass is hard to see through and colored glass shows up on maps.

Thanks :)

Going to be meeting Saturday about the Memorial at 20 CEST (2PM Eastern), if anyone would like to come. If you are not whitelisted to my realms yet, just let me know. Will be uploading most current version of map tomorrow. I think I am getting to the point where I cannot do more in World Painter, so others will be able to help soon :)

Looked it up found posts of people complaining that render distance on realms is only 10 chunks. On my realm it seems to be loading only be 8 chunks, have no idea why.

Came up with layout to groups dots in sets of 10.

Believe I have done everything we talked about that can be done in WorldPainter.
- Made wall at top of waterfall same level as lake
- Did the glass effect under water around the dot map
- Changes the dot map and black borders to black concrete
Let me know if I missed something.

Avril and I talked about doing something to transition from the continent platforms to the ground. We talked about doing something themed to each along the edge that would contain stairs. Using structure blocks to repeat. One possibility would be to just do stairs:2020-08-06_16.52.34.png

Transition is good, but what is "themed" for a continent? ;)
I like the stairs. Its simple and maybe even doable in world painter?
Structure blocks can copy a maximum of 32 blocks in one direction. Given the size of the map pasting something all around a continents may get a bit tedious.

Unfortunately cannot do the stairs in World Painter. I did figure out how to do them with "fill" command so that they point in the right direction. :)

What I was picturing for themed was something architectural, but open, like a gazebo or decorative gate, but stretched long and repeated. Not sure about the idea, thus trying the stairs.

I'd like to point out how amazing this project is and how much love and work Kelly is putting into that!
There also is still alot to be done that could get done easily by many.

So anyone who has a teensy weensy bit of time to spare, please think about hopping in and lending a hand. You do not have to be a builder to help. Over 200 flag designs have to be laid out for example, so that is something easily done flag by flag.
Poke Kelly to be whitelisted. ;)
